About Scarborough

Scarborough South Bay

Welcome to Scarborough, Britain's first seaside resort. The popularity of Scarborough as a holiday resort has grown steadily with the arrival of the railway in 1845 and ever since people have flocked to enjoy the splendid promenades, gardens and beaches of the Scaborough's North and South Bays. Situated between two magnificent bays with their safe, sandy beaches, is a headland on which stands the remains of the 12th century castle.

Sandy beaches, cliff tops, and a busy pedestrianised shopping precint, stand only yards apart and are all reached by the famous Victorian Cliff Lifts.

Peasholm Park

Scarborough's North Bay is a children's paradise - there's Peasholm Park with its boating lake and Naval Warfare displays and Atlantis, offering fun in an exciting heated outdoor waterpark with slides and water cannons - ideal for those hot sunny days! There is also Kinderland, a magical world of good old fashioned fun, adventure and excitement. A popular treat for children and parents alike is the Miniature Railway which runs from Peasholm Park Station along the curve of the North Bay to the award winning Sea Life Marine Sanctuary. Here you can view the underworld of local sea life from seals to small sharks.

Scarborough's Sun Court

Scarborough's South Bay is where you can find the lively beach and amusement arcades, ice cream parlours and rock shops and is the ideal location to find those souvenirs to take back home. But, if you like a more sedate pastime, you can head to the Scarborough Spa Complex and sit in the Suncourt and listen to the resident Scarborough Spa Orchestra and while away an afternoon. At night the Spa Complex offers a variety of Summer Shows ideal for all the family.

The Centre and Old Town of Scarborough is only a short walk away from the Castle. Here you will find major retail outlets sitting alongside small independent shops. There are Restaurants, bars and cafes offering an amazing choice of different foods to tempt you. In the Summer, and at Christmas, the pedestrianised area in the town centre plays host to a continental market which is popular with residents and visitors alike. The old town leads down to a busy harbour and is filled with quaint cobbled streets and old fisherman's cottages.

Shire House Farm

Scarborough has a variety of Theatres who provide year round first class entertainment such as the famous Stephen Joseph Theatre where Alan Ayckbourn premieres all his new plays. There is also the aforementioned Spa Complex and the nearby Futurist Theatre as well as the YMCA theatre which plays host to many local talented youngsters throughout the year.

The Countryside around Scarborough is beautiful with rolling hills, secluded woodland and heather clad moors. Whether you want to take a drive or partake in many of the outdoor pursuits available from Mountain biking and quad biking to walking. There are many lovely picnic spots and lots of attractions to visit.

Scarborough offers ample opportunities to enjoy a different experience every day!
